2016 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Inaccessible ($155.00) Rating 95-97
With a reported production of just over 100 cases, the 2016 Faugères Inaccessible will be hard to track down, but it will be worth the effort. A blend of 70% Mourvèdre and 30% Syrah, aged in new oak, it’s not as perfumed as the Rarissime bottling, but it still boasts exotic notes of cumin and Asian five spices, plummy fruit and red-berry undertones. Produced from yields under 25 hectoliters per hectare, it’s full-bodied, rich and densely concentrated yet long, nuanced and elegant, with the seductive texture of plush velvet. Drink date: 2018-2027.
2013 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Inaccessible ($125.00) Rating 95
Leading off the 2013s, and one of the true superstars in the vintage, the 2013 Faugères Inaccessible is a fabulous mix of 75% Mourvèdre, 18% Syrah and 7% Grenache that spent 16 months in new oak. Its inky purple color is followed by a fabulously pure array of blackberries, spice-box, wild flowers and garrigue. This gives way to a full-bodied, elegant, yet concentrated and hedonistic Faugères that has no hard edges, ripe tannin and a great finish. You can see the cooler nature of the vintage, yet it has terrific ripeness and is a joy to drink. Bravo to the team for this smokin’ effort! Drink date: 2016-2028

2012 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Inaccessible Rating 91- 93+
More juicy and lively than the 2011, the 2012 Faugères Inaccessible has fabulous depth and richness to go with lots of sweet black cherry and blackberry fruit, new leather, coffee bean and licorice. Possessing integrated acidity, plenty of tannins and a blockbuster finish, it should benefit from short term cellaring, yet evolve gracefully for over a decade.
2011 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Inaccessible Rating 94
Another terrific wine, the 2011 Faugères Inaccessible is made from 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah, 20% Grenache, all of which was aged 16 months in 100% new French oak. It offers lots of black fruits, chocolate, coffee bean and wood smoke to go with a voluptuous, rich, concentrated feel on the palate. This is a big, rich and concentrated effort that need bottle age. As with the Rarissime cuvee, give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade.
2016 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Rarissime ($60.00) Rating 93 - 95
Another gorgeous effort being represented in the United States by importer Eric Solomon, the 2016 Faugeres Rarissime is a blend of 70% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre, aged in new oak. It starts with knockout aromas of violets, licorice, blueberries and sassafras, while the full-bodied palate is broad and expansive while seeming weightless at the same time. Texturally, it comes in somewhere between silk and velvet, with a firm underpinning of finely ground stone dust and hints of cocoa on the finish. It should drink well for a decade or more. Drink date 2018-2025.
2015 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Rarissime ($55.00) Rating 94 - 96
A smoking good red from the schist soils of the fabulous appellation, the 2015 Faugères Rarissime checks with a mix of 88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 6% Mourvèdre. It delivers stunning notes of cassis, currants, leather, licorice and spice in a full-bodied, supple, pure and elegant style that carries its weight and richness effortlessly. This is a serious knockout bottle of wine!
2014 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Rarissime ($55.00) Rating 95
A serious effort that has an almost Bordeaux like structure and austerity, the 2014 Faugères Rarissime is made from 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache that saw a long maceration and aging in new oak casks. It’s deep ruby color (it’s almost black at the center), is followed by a rich, layered bouquet of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedary spice and hints of leather. Rich, full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated and textured, with a stacked mid-palate and impeccable balance. I suspect it’s one of the handful of top wines in the vintage. Drink date 2018-2026.
2013 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Rarissime ($55.00) Rating 91 - 93+
Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2013 Faugères Rarissime is similar to the 2012 with its bitter herbs, vanilla, spice and sweet black cherry and black raspberry fruit. Glass staining purple in color, with full-bodied richness, gorgeous purity and a fresh, focused profile that will allow it to age gracefully, it should benefit from short term cellaring and have 10-15 years of longevity.
2012 Mas Gabinèle Faugères Rarissime ($55.00) Rating 93
The 2012 Faugères Rarissime, it’s a smoking blend of 65% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre that spent 16 months in 70% new French oak. It’s gorgeous on all account, offering up lots of bitter herbs, smoked black fruits, chocolate and tar. Full-bodied, voluptuous and seamless, it has big core of tannin and acidity, and needs short term cellaring to round into form. Give it 2-3 years and enjoy bottles through 2024
